OnelyKey is based on a simple but powerful idea: no data needs to be stored to generate or retrieve your passwords. Everything is calculated locally, in real-time, from your master password.
For each site or service, OnelyKey combines your master password with the site name to generate a unique password. The same master password will always produce the same result for a given site, without ever storing anything.
This ensures that even when switching devices, you can instantly retrieve your passwords without syncing or backups.
When local storage is used (for notes, credentials, or encrypted entries), OnelyKey applies the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm in CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) mode with PKCS5Padding. This combination is a security benchmark used in many banking and government applications.
The encryption key is derived from your master password using a strengthened cryptographic hash, ensuring that no attacker can recover your password.
